The Herman A. Spear Post 331, American Legion is named in memory of Seaman 1st class Herman A. Spear, the first Beverly Veteran to be killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941 while serving about the USS Nevada BB-36 Battleship.

Post 331 was incorporated in 1947 and currently has approximately 1000+ members including Veteran, Sons of the American Legion, Auxilary and social members.
